Cobia & Spadefish

Cobia

When a Cobia takes the bait, set the hook and hang onto the rod, the battle has just begun. Cobia will run into the tide, across the tide, circle the boat, or do just about anything they want. Usually the first move by Mr. Cobia is to the surface in an attempt to shake the hook.

Channel Bass & Sharks will be feeding on the same bait as the Cobia. A mixed catch of these tackle testing fish will make any angler happy.

Channel Bass or Red Drum are known by the black spot or spots near the tail. Small reds are called "spot tail". Reds are the hardest fighting member of the Drum family.

Spadefish
Spadefish are the "pitbulls" of light tackle fishing. Ranging from 3-12 pounds, these slad-sided fighters never give up. Spadefish are in the family Ephippidae. They are disk-shaped, schooling fish that prefer to live in warm costal waters. In the lower bay, spades' feed on small shellfish around wrecks, buoys, bridge pilings, and hard bottom areas.
